GeoDiscover Alberta ( ), provides one clear online access point to different types of maps, services and geographic information related to the province of Alberta as well as facilitates the implementation of the province’s Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI). This SDI includes a common framework for metadata, processes, policies, standards, and technology that enables the acquisition, processing, distribution, maintenance, preservation and use of geographic data and information.

The Geospatial Information Coordinator provides technical and consultation services to support the provision of maps and geographic information to clients and stakeholders. The position is responsible for maintaining and administering the metadata data holdings of the GeoDiscover Alberta program and plays a key role in facilitating the seamless integration of data holdings from GeoDiscover partners into the portal environment as data becomes available.

This position supports the development of geospatial concepts and policies that underpin GeoDiscover Alberta as the SDI for Alberta as well as providing input to the development of geospatial standards and processes to ensure the use and dissemination of geospatial data is consistent with established good practice.

This role functions as a subject matter expert in relation to the content of GeoDiscover Alberta geospatial metadata standard and portal metadata catalogue. This position is relied on to maintain relationships within government, as well as external stakeholders (including the public). As well, the GeoSpatial Information Coordinator will provide guidance regarding geospatial data and metadata standards, as well as best practises and operational implementation of the GeoDiscover metadata standard and geospatial data management issues.

* BUILD COLLABORATIVE ENVIRONMENTS – to facilitate open commutation between at all levels of the government, cross ministry working groups and teams, as well as external stakeholders as you seek to build collaborative solutions to complex issues.

* DEVELOP NETWORKS – The ability to establish and maintain strong collaborative partnerships with diverse groups of stakeholders involved with geospatial data and information technology.

* DRIVE FOR RESULTS – The ability to look at enhancing current business processes, promote innovation in the field of geospatial data management and a strong commitment to personal growth.

University degree in Computer Science, Geography, GIS, Library Science or related discipline. Experience with GIS technologies and data management is preferred. Experience with the ESRI suite of GIS software is highly desirable along with experience with data management, metadata development, and OGC standards.

$2113.48 to $2,772.38 bi-weekly ($55,162 to $72,359 annually)

This temporary-salaried position is for a term of up to 2 years. Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower level and salary. This competition may be used to fill current and future vacancies across government.
