This position will perform a wide variety of tasks involved in the development of cartographic products including field data collection, compilation, editing and production (manual or digital, manual and/or color); Global Positioning system (GPS); and Geographic Information System (GIS) technical support functions. Visits field sites to gather information utilizing field mapping techniques which may include GPS
hardware and software such as Trimble and Garmin receivers, TerraSync, Arcpad, Pathfinder Office and DNR Garmin. Plans and implements projects involving digital geospatial data and resulting products for a variety of park operations. Operate, update and maintain GIS software, hardware, and associated peripheral devices. Maintain GPS equipment, GIS database and network server hosting park’s GIS library. Shares GIS, GPS and other digital information through established channels of distribution.

Applicants for this position must meet the basic experience or education requirements stated below. For equivalent combinations of education and experience refer to OPM’s Operating Manual, Qualifications Standards for General Schedule Positions, available in any Federal personnel Office.

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level. Experience must have been related to the work of the position for which application is made. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: internships or technician work; cartographic, engineering, or biological technician work that involved the application of GIS/GPS practices on cultural, resource conservation, or land management when
combined with knowledge of GIS software and hardware operations and equipment.


Successful completion of one full year of graduate level education in cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, remote sensing, algebra, trigonometry, and calculus. (9 semester hours
